Boroughmuir High School named Scottish State Secondary of the Year

At the weekend Boroughmuir High School was announced as the Sunday Times Scottish State Secondary School of the Year for 2012.

Councillor Paul Godzik, the city's Education Convener, said: "I'm delighted that Boroughmuir High School has been recognised for the wonderful work it does to provide the city's children with a first-class education. I have to thank all the staff and pupils who have worked extremely hard to make the school such a success."

The school was honoured in the Sunday Times Schools Guide 2012 partly for moving up three places from twelfth to ninth in the state secondary league table over the last year. It was also the only Edinburgh state school to make the top ten.

David Dempster, the acting Head Teacher of Boroughmuir High School, said: "This is the result of everyone in the school community - pupils, parents and staff - working together to make what is a great school in Edinburgh now a great school in Scotland."
