Environment Convener welcomes new 'green' cars

Environment Convener, Councillor Lesley Hinds today welcomed the delivery of six new environmentally friendly electric vans for use in front line Council services.

She said: "This is a very important step towards cleaner and more efficient Council vehicles. We currently use three electric cars and are awaiting the delivery of an electric mail van, which will bring our 'green' fleet up to 13 vehicles, including hybrids.

"We have installed charging posts around the city and we hope to replace more of our diesel cars and vans with electric alternatives in the future."

The new Renault Kangoos will be used for services such as road maintenance, waste services and street cleaning.

Susan Carson from West Neighbourhood's Community Safety Team tries out one of the new vans.
