Boroughmuir High School is top in Scotland

Boroughmuir High School has come out on top as the school to have the highest percentage of pupils to gain 3+ Highers in this years exam results in Scotland.

City of Edinburgh Council, Education Convener, Paul Godzik said, "Boroughmuir High School has done an outstanding job this year and we are very proud of what they have achieved, I would like to congratulate the staff and pupils once again on their achievements and I am pleased they now, quite rightly, hold the title of best state school in Scotland.

"Today's news is bittersweet as whilst we are proud to hold the top position we also hold a number of the lower positions.  However, when you look at a variety of measurements for our schools some of our historically poorer performing schools have made great strides this year and the direction of travel is the right one."

David Dempster, Head Teacher at Boroughmuir High School said, "We have been working very hard to get to where we are and today's news is really wonderful.  I would like to thank all the staff for their efforts as well as the pupils who have put in such tremendous work with support from their parents.  We'll be working hard to make sure we do well again next year and in future years."

Edinburgh Schools performance this year has shown a continuing upward trend, schools are, in the majority of indicators, performing above the national average.

This statement is based on information collated by external bodies following the release of the school exam results by Education Scotland on 18 December 2012.
