Exploratory works ahead of Leith Programme utilities phase

The contractor preparing to carry out essential utilties work in Leith will begin exploratory works on site from next week.

A number of short-term trial holes will be dug in three locations (Constitution Street and McDonald Road).

These exploratory works are a final stage in the preparation for essential utilities infrastructure work, which is scheduled to commence on 18 February.

The utilities work is the first phase in the Leith Programme, a comprehensive project to improve the standard of the roads, pavements and environment in Constitution Street, Leith Walk and Picardy Place.

On Constitution Street, trial holes are required at the front of both 46A and 159 Constitution Street, and will be dug on Monday 28 January 2013; this is expected to last a matter of days. There will be some parking restrictions linked to these works.

On McDonald Road at the junction with Leith Walk, trial holes will be dug over the weekend commencing Saturday 9 February 2013. This will involve weekend work, and the temporary closure of McDonald Road where it meets Leith Walk.

Any enquiries can be fed into the City Centre and Leith Neighbourhood on 0131 529 7061.
