Moredun Community Initiative Week: 2nd – 7th April

An initiative to make the Moredun area of the Capital cleaner, safer and greener kicks off on Tuesday 2nd April.

The Community Initiative Week will be launched by the City of Edinburgh Council in partnership with the Lothian and Borders Police and various partner agencies.

It aims to raise awareness of the services available to support residents in Moredun's six high rise blocks and residents will be encouraged to ask for advice or to speak out about any concerns they have.  

Residents are invited to attend the following “drop-in” sessions, to hear more and to make their views heard:

  • Tuesday 2 April,10am to 2pm: Police and Fire and Rescue Services will provide information on Cycle Safety and fire safety advice at Moredun library.
  • Wednesday 3 April, 2pm to 4pm: Staff from the South Neighbourhood local office, CastleRock/Edinvar Housing Association and Neighbourhood Support Service will provide advice and assistance on Welfare Benefit Reform at the Goodtrees Neighbourhood centre.
  • Thursday 4 April  10am to 2pm: Police and Fire and Rescue Services will provide information on Driver and Pedestrian Safety and Fire prevention at Moredun library.
  • Friday 5 April, 12pm to 2pm: Police will provide cycle safety advice and bike marking at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
  • Saturday 6 April, 10am to 4pm: Police and Fire and Rescue Services will provide Crime Prevention information and Fire Safety Advice at Moredun library.

During the Community Initiative Week, a number of agencies will also carry out focused work in the Moredun area, including:

  • Environmental Wardens will be carrying out covert work to identify and take action on matters such as dog fouling and flytipping.
  • Wardens will be putting a stall in Morrisons store on the afternoon of Wednesday 3 April to raise awareness on dog fouling.
  • Night Time Wardens will be carrying out patrols in the Moredun area after 11pm to report on any anti social or criminal activity to the police.
  • The Task Force will be available to remove any graffiti and will provide extra patrols for street cleaning.
  • Police and Community Safety will be carrying out door to door visits asking residents if they are affected by anti social behaviour and asking what issues in the community they are concerned about.
  • The Fire and Rescue Service will be carrying out fire safety visits to residents.
  • The CCTV van will be patrolling the area focusing on areas of concern, identified from analytical information provided by the police.
  • The South Neighbourhood’s Property Team will be carrying out walkabouts of the area focusing on messy gardens and other issues in the Moredun area.
