East Neighbourhood Centre and Craigmillar Library officially opened

A new City of Edinburgh Council library and community facility in the east of Edinburgh was officially opened by Council Leader Andrew Burns today (Friday 19th April).

The East Neighbourhood Centre and Craigmillar Library was built as part of the ongoing plans to regenerate the area.

As well as bringing staff together from several Council departments and partner agencies, the building provides a new community space.

The £7.7 million building was built by Graham Construction. Visitors to the centre can pay bills such as rent and Council tax, apply for benefits, book space for community meetings, have a coffee in the Full Stop Café, and access advice about Council services.

Councillor Burns, who cut a ribbon to mark the occasion this morning, said: “This is an exciting time for both Craigmillar and the wider east Edinburgh area. The new facility is both modern and accessible, providing a new focus for local community activities and supporting the ongoing regeneration of the area.

“Our excellent partnership with Hub South East Scotland on this project has meant we’ve been able to deliver this project to the local community on time and on budget."
