Fountain Quay master planners appointed
A consortium of 7N Architects and Michael Laird Architects has been appointed to develop a master plan for a vibrant new development in the city’s Fountain Quay area.
The appointment was made after a rigorous selection process and the consultants have been tasked to create a vision of a modern neighbourhood, with the capacity to accommodate a new Boroughmuir High School and offer some expansion potential to the city's business district.
The City of Edinburgh
Council's property company, EDI will use the plans and recommendations
by the Master Planners to shape the overall development of the area.
The City's Design Leader, Riccardo Marini, said: "This team was selected because they exuded the confidence, understanding and skill to help the city reinterpret the master planning exercises of the past and deliver a viable and wonderful place."
"I have no doubt that Fountain Quay will become a welcome and complimentary addition to the city's list of vibrant neighbourhoods and an important destination in its own right."
Missives were concluded by The City of Edinburgh Council in December 2011 to acquire the site from Lloyds Banking Group. The City bid for the site as its preferred location for a new Boroughmuir High School.
Additional information:
Statutory consultation on the proposals to build a new Boroughmuir High School at Fountain Quay, or refurbish and extend the existing school building, will commence on 20 February and run until 30 March. Further information, including the dates and venues for public meetings, can be found on the Council's website from 20 February.

Could you please explain why another Masterplan has to be designed when we, as local residents, have already commented on the first "Masterplan". Edinburgh Quay was designed and built with many aspects countering public opinion at consultation meetings( height for one)and many parts still empty. What confidence can we have that Michael Laird will behave differently for this site?
