Cowgate to close for four nights due to essential SoCo works

Road users and residents are being advised that the Cowgate will be closed between Stevenlaws Close and Niddrie Street from 19:00 on Friday 21 June to 06:00 on Wednesday 26 June.

***Closure now in place until 6am Wednesday 26 June (updated Monday 24 June)***

The road closure is required to facilitate all the public utility connections (SGN, Scottish Water, BT, Scottish Power) to the new SoCo development on the South Bridge/Cowgate.

Diversions will be in place as follows:

•  Eastbound 1 (from Lothian Road) Bread Street - Spittal Street - Johnston Terrace - Royal Mile
•  Eastbound 2 (from the Grassmarket) Victoria Street - George IV Bridge - Royal Mile
•  Westbound 1 (from the park) Horse Wynd - Royal Mile
•  Westbound 2 (from Holyrood Road) Pleasance - West Richmond Street - West Nicolson Street - Teviot Place -    Forrest Road - Candlemaker Row

Advance notification signs are already in place and notification letters have been sent to all affected residents and businesses. 

Following the closure, two-way temporary traffic lights (manually controlled) will be in operation in the Cowgate from Tuesday 25 June to 11 July.

Please note that Blair Street will also be closed to through traffic for the duration of the works, from 21 June to 11 July.
