Edinburgh culture leader pays tribute to John Bellany
Following the news that acclaimed Scottish artist John Bellany has died at the age of 71, Culture Convener Councillor Richard Lewis today paid tribute.
Cllr Lewis said: “With John Bellany’s passing, the art
world has lost one of its most accomplished and influential members. A
graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, he was always closely associated
with Edinburgh and the East coast. John Bellany was truly one of the
best Scottish artists of his generation and we were proud to stage a
small show of his work some years ago at the City Art Centre. My
thoughts are with his friends and family at this very sad time.”
Edinburgh
Museums & Galleries looks after a number of works by John Bellany
on behalf of the City as part of its nationally recognised collection of
Scottish art. Two of these paintings, including The Obsession, are currently on display as part of Dressed to Kill at the City Art Centre, which runs until 29 September.
