Final call for the Edinburgh Award

There is just one week left to nominate someone for the prestigious Edinburgh Award 2019.

As the closing date for nominations looms close, the Lord Provost of Edinburgh is urging communities, businesses and individuals across the Capital to propose someone for the Edinburgh Award.

Established in 2007, the Edinburgh Award is a way for the Capital’s citizens to pay a lasting tribute to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the city.Edinburgh Award

Recent recipients include philanthropists Sir Tom Farmer and Tom Gilzean and University of Edinburgh Professor Timothy O'Shea - each of whom has a cast of their handprints imprinted in flagstones in front of the Council City Chambers.

Last year’s recipient - larger-than-life rugby legend Doddie Weir - followed in the footsteps of fellow sportsmen Ken Buchanan, Sir Chris Hoy and George Kerr to be honoured with the Edinburgh Award for his achievements as a rugby player and as an ambassador for MND Research.

Final nominations for the 2019 Award must be received by noon on Friday 10 May.

Commenting, the Lord Provost said: “With the deadline looming, this is your last chance to celebrate someone who makes Edinburgh such an inspiring place by nominating them for the Edinburgh Award. This is the most prestigious honour in the city and there are so many citizens who deserve this recognition, but we really need everyone’s help to tell us – who should be next?
