The Traverse Theatre – Fifty Years

From its conception in 1963, the Traverse has remained a pivotal arts venue in Scotland. Founded to keep the spirit of the Edinburgh festivals alive, year-round, the Traverse has an unrivalled national and international reputation as a producer and presenter of new work.

In its 50th year they continue the tradition of innovation and risk taking that launched the careers of many of Scotland’s best known writers including John Byrne, David Greig, Liz Lochhead, David Harrower and Zinnie Harris.
