Edinburgh Trading Standards team urge caution over valeting products

Officers from the City of Edinburgh Council's Trading Standards have been alerted that professional level valeting products/chemicals which are not suitable for consumer use are being decanted and sold over auction sites.

Autosmart ‘Ali’ is a professional use alloy wheel cleaner - the markings and packaging are very likely to be unsuitable for consumers and the risks posed are significant. Some listings have stated ‘low hazard/sprayable’. This is NOT the case.

Please do not use this product, as there is a risk of serious injury or death. You will not feel any immediate pain if you spill the product, but Hydrofluoric Acid decalcifies bones, requiring urgent treatment with special antidote gel – Calcium Gluconate.

Chemical products being decanted from larger containers must comply with the relevant legislation covering warning, packaging and quantity control. Of particular concern are products which may be sold without the relevant child resistant closures.

Trading Standards teams are taking steps to have these products removed from auction platforms.

Further information regarding this can be obtained from Autosmart (contact details below). If you are a seller, and believe that you have sold this product, you should contact your local Trading Standards service for advice.
