Walking in a winter wonderland

When the mercury drops and the days get shorter, it can be tempting to avoid the Great Outdoors and cosy up inside instead.

But taking a walk in the fresh air is the perfect pick-me-up, no matter what time of year it is. Calton Hill #edinwalks winter

Walking boosts your mood, helps you sleep better and reduces stress and anxiety - to name but a few benefits. That's why we're launching a social media campaign to encourage the public to share their favourite #edinwalks this winter.

Whether it's a gentle meander along the Water of Leith path, an energetic climb up Blackford Hill to enjoy the views or a bracing seaside walk with the dog along Portobello Promenade, we want to create a gallery capturing Edinburgh's best walks.

Transport Convener Councillor Lesley Hinds said: "It may be Edinbrr outside, but if you wrap up nice and warm you can still explore the Capital in all her wintry beauty.

"Check out our family-friendly QuietRoutes for inspiration when you plan your next walk and do share your photos with us using #edinwalks so we can help encourage others to get the winter walking bug too!"

Follow us on Twitter and get snapping next time you're out for a winter stroll.
