Festival Square all set for live opera tonight

From 6.30pm tonight, the Big Screen will become the venue for an evening of free opera.

The scene is set in Festival Square for Falstaff live from the Royal Opera House  The programme will commence with live performances by acclaimed professional singers Andrea Baker and Ronald Samm, followed by a broadcast of Verdi's Falstaff direct from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden (starts at 7.30pm).

Eurovision draws a crowd at the Big Screen

Around 100 people enjoyed a live broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest at the Big Screen in Festival Square on Saturday evening.

Alongside fans of the UK entry sung by Englebert Humperdinck, supporters of Russia, France, Greece and Lithuania gathered in the sunshine to watch the show. 

Enjoying Eurovision at the Big Screen in Festival Square  The Big Screen in Festival Square is hosting a wide range of sporting and cultural events over the next few months as Scotland's only Olympic Live Site.

 Wednesday evening will see the Square transformed into a venue for live opera ahead of a screening of Falstaff direct from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

Next weekend, Diamond Jubilee events from London will be broadcast, with seating provided for people to enjoy the BBC's Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert from Buckingham Palace on the evening of Monday 4 June.

Lord Provost sends best wishes to Edinburgh Marathon runners

Lord Provost Donald Wilson wishes this year's Edinburgh Marathon runners luck ahead of the race this weekend:

Lord Provost Donald Wilson said: "On behalf of the City, I'd like to wish all the runners in this weekend's Edinburgh Marathon events the very best of luck. This is the 10th year of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival and it promises to be great weather for the occasion. I doubt there are many other marathon venues in the world that can rival Edinburgh for its spectacular backdrop and proven experience of hosting top level events - racegoers and spectators will be in for a real treat."

Roads affected this weekend for Edinburgh Marathon

Various road closures and parking restrictions will apply this weekend (Saturday 26 May & Sunday 27 May) during the Edinburgh Marathon Festival.
