Atria Edinburgh reaches significant milestone

Key development celebrates topping out ceremony - press release issued today by Atria Edinburgh.

Donald Brown of Brewin Dolphin and Sue Bruce, Chief Executive of the City of Edinburgh CouncilThe City of Edinburgh Council's Chief Executive, Sue Bruce, today marked a significant milestone in the development of Atria Edinburgh by filling in the last concrete slab on the highest floor of the building as part of a topping out ceremony.

Atria Edinburgh, the Council's landmark Grade A office development located next to the EICC (Edinburgh International Conference Centre), is split between two buildings, comprising nearly 200,000 sq ft of accommodation.  It is the only speculative city centre Grade A office building in the UK, outside London and the South East, to offer more than 100,000sq ft by early 2013.

The topping out ceremony, on the seventh floor of Atria One, celebrated the over all completion of the development's structural steel frame and floor slabs.  It was attended by key members of the project team as well as representatives from investment managers Brewin Dolphin, the first confirmed tenant which will take 25% of the building.

Sue Bruce, Chief Executive of The City of Edinburgh Council, which is funding and developing the project, commented:  "Atria Edinburgh is a key development for the city and it is a great achievement that we are here today to celebrate its topping out, an important milestone in the progression of the project.

"This development, set against the backdrop of a UK market where there is a dearth of large speculative office developments, gives Edinburgh a competitive advantage in attracting new, and retaining existing, businesses."

Linda McPherson, Creative Industries and East Region Director at Scottish Enterprise, which is part-funding the project, added:  "We are committed to providing Scotland with a world class business environment where companies can grow and prosper.  An important part of this is to ensure that there is sufficient provision of top quality Grade A office space in our key cities, as supply of appropriate accommodation is vital to Scotland's continued success in attracting inward investment.  Atria Edinburgh is a key element of this and will help build on the strengths that Edinburgh already has to offer, bringing more jobs and wealth to Scotland."

Atria Edinburgh is being marketed for let by joint agents Jones Lang LaSalle and Montagu Evans.
