I’ll be braving the kids’ water pistols today for the 69th Edinburgh Taxi Trade Children’s Outing.

The event has been going for years and it’s always great fun and done in the name of a cherished cause in Edinburgh.

Taxi outing 2014

The outing has been organised and funded by taxi drivers and gives a day out to the beach for children with special needs, life-limiting conditions and terminal illnesses.

Edinburgh's schools and social work departments assist and the taxis are all decorated with balloons or as floats and assemble at the ice rink car park at Murrayfield Stadium. Judging and presentation of prizes takes place for best float taxi, best balloon taxi, best fancy dressed driver and best fancy dressed child.

The taxis then tour the city centre and residents love giving the kids a wave. I’m looking forward to travelling in one of the taxis with some of the children for a lift to the city chambers – even if I do get soaked!
