Shoot for the Edinburgh Arrow

Tomorrow (Thursday 16 June) I have the brilliant task of presenting the Edinburgh Arrow to the winner of this historic contest, which will be held in the Meadows.

Each year, the Royal Company of Archers Shoot with the arrow as part of a traditional and fun event. Come along at 5pm and watch what will be the 308th competition!

The prize is shot for over a distance of 180 yards with two targets or 'clouts' as the aiming mark - one at each end of the range.

I shake hands with the person who takes the best shot, they march forward, salute, and place the Arrow in their belt while the piped sounds of a General Salute can be heard in the Meadows.

It’s a fantastic event with such a long history and it’s a pleasure for me to present the silver Arrow to the victor. I hope the weather is kind to us this year and I wish all the competitors the very best of luck!
