With all eyes on Team Scotland tonight as they take part in the Opening Ceremony for Glasgow 2014, I wanted to take the opportunity today to wish our local athletes the best of luck for the Games.

Having presented the acclaimed scientist and Nobel Prize winner Professor Peter Higgs with the Edinburgh Medal in 2013, it was an added pleasure this weekend to once again honour his achievements by making a very special award - the Freedom of the City.
Today is the start of Royal Week and this afternoon I welcomed Her Majesty and His Royal Highness to Edinburgh and the Queen's ‘ancient and hereditary kingdom of Scotland’ as she began her annual week of engagements across the country.
Frank Ross is the Rt. Hon. Lord Lieutenant and Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh. The Lord Provost is Edinburgh's civic head, an ancient office dating back to the 13th century.
