City Mobility Plan

Waverley Bridge, Edinburgh

The City Mobility Plan will set the strategic approach for how people and goods travel into, and around, our growing city. Its development will supersede the existing Local Transport Strategy for Edinburgh, in setting policies and actions that help to make Edinburgh a fair, thriving, connected and inspired capital city.

The key objectives of the project are

  • Improved built & natural environment
  • Improved health, wellbeing & safety
  • Improved equity & social inclusion
  • Responsible & sustainable economic growth.

The City Mobility Plan is being prepared alongside the early stages of City Plan 2030 so that new development will improve choices for people to lead healthier lives, through improved provision for walking and cycling and better links to public transport. Regional activity will also feature in the strategy, given the impact of commuter travel on our transport network and Edinburgh’s important focus for retail and leisure.

Next steps:

  • September 2019: Draft City Mobility Plan for consultation.
  • February 2020: Final City Mobility Plan reported to Committee.
