| Your
questions answered
What
can I pay on-line?
At the moment, you can pay your Council Tax, Council House rent, non-domestic
rates (business rates), and bills for
Council services. When we add new options in the future, we will let you
know on the Council's homepage.
Which
number do I use?
Council
Tax: The number you need is your Customer Account Number from
your Council Tax Demand Notice. It is an eleven-digit number, starting
with a 9.
You can also use the number below your name on your Council Tax Payment
Card, but you will have to add two digits to tell us which year you want
to make a payment for. So, if you want to make a payment for the current
year (April 06/March 07), just add '06' to the end of the number on your
card. If you want to make a payment for the previous year (ending March
06), just add '05' and so on.
If you have any problems, please email Payments.
Non-Domestic
Rates: The number you need is your Account Number from your Demand
Notice. It is a ten-digit number, starting with a 3.
You can also use the number on your Payment Card, but you will have to
add two digits to tell us which year you want to make a payment for. So,
if you want to make a payment for the current year (April 06/March 07),
just add '06' to the end of the number on your card. If you want to make
a payment for the previous year (ending March 06), just add '05' and so
on.
If you have any problems, please email Payments.
Council
House Rent: The number you need is your tenancy reference number.
This is on your rent book.
Service
Accounts: We issue service accounts for many reasons - statutory
notice repairs, pest control bills and home help bills to name but a few
- the number is always on the bill and it starts with the number 7.
Why
can't I pay other things?
We are starting with these services because they are the most frequently
asked for. We will be adding more items in the future and if you want
to let us know what you think would be most useful, please fill in our
feedback
form.
Is it
safe?
We have teamed up with WorldPay to bring this service to you. WorldPay,
a leading Internet payment company and part of the Royal Bank of Scotland
group provides the secure site for taking your payment details. Go to
Is it safe? for more details.
Which
address should I put in if I don't live in Edinburgh?
Please enter details for the address to which the bill refers,
which will be an Edinburgh address.
Can I
pay more than one bill?
Yes, but you will have to go through the process of entering your personal
details and your payment details for each bill. We hope to make it easier
to pay multiple bills in the future.
How else
can I pay?
You can still choose to pay your bills in any of the usual ways. Go to
How to pay your Council bills for details.
Which
cards do you take?
At the moment, we only take Switch, Delta, Solo and Visa Debit. If you
used to have a Switch card and this has been replaced by a Maestro card,
you can still pay by clicking on the Switch button on the payment page.
We do not accept credit cards at present.
Can I
get a receipt?
WorldPay will automatically send you a receipt when your transaction has
completed successfully. You can also print off a copy of the confirmation
page at the end of your transaction if you want a paper record.
What if
my card is refused?
There are many reasons why this may happen. If it does, you should contact
your own bank immediately.
Why
on-line payments?
The Council is committed to modernising its services and giving you a
range of payment options - including on-line payments - is part of this.

Edinburgh.
What if
I experience problems?
Help is available throughout the system, but if you run into difficulties,
please let us know at Payments.
We will get back to you within two working days (this means that if a
problem occurred at the weekend, we would reply to you by the Wednesday
following.)
How quickly
will you process my payment?
At the end of each day, WorldPay will let the Council know about the payments
they have received. We will then process these payments on your account
within one working day.
This means
in effect that your account will be updated within two working days of
you making payment on-line.
Can I
check my balance on-line?
Not at the moment. We hope to develop on-line services in the future that
will allow you to do this. As soon as this service is available, we will
let you know through our Website.
Do you
keep my card details?
Not at all. We have teamed up with WorldPay to bring this service to you.
WorldPay, a leading Internet payment provider and part of the Royal Bank
of Scotland group is providing the secure site for taking your payment
details. This means that at no time are your debit card details known
to or stored by the Council.
What
if my bill is for less than £5?
You can pay by cash at most of our front counters (not Chesser House -
cheques and debit cards only). |
