The Council's Interpretation and Translation Service provides residents of Edinburgh and Lothians with written and oral interpretations of Council or Health Service information or meetings. The service is free of charge to residents of Edinburgh and the Lothians. You can arrange this service through:
- any Council department
- any hospital, health centre or GP practice
- any community organisation.
You may use us for appointments with, for example:
- schools, colleges or other education services
- Housing and Social Work Departments
- hospitals
- dentists
- GPs
- opticians.
We translate or interpret into:
- a wide range of languages, such as Chinese, Urdu, Arabic, Benagli or Punjabi as well as European languages
- braille
- large print
- sign language
- or onto audio tape.
Who do I contact?
If you live in Edinburgh and the Lothians, and you have a meeting with Council or Health Services:
- you can request an interpreter to come to the meeting with you. Simply ask a friend or relative to telephone the person you are to meet and ask them to arrange for an interpreter to attend the meeting.
