Facilities:
The Main Theatre seats 360 and is fully equipped with lights, sound, piano for hire and dressing rooms with showers.
There is a coffee bar which is included with the hire of the theare and is equipped with tables, chairs, kitchen area, fridge/freezer but no crockery is provided. A cafe or full bar can be operated by hirers provided appropriate drinks licenses are applied for.
There is also a Studio which seats up to 145 people theatre style, or a small function for up to 75 people. A small kitchen is attached to the Studio.
There is a workshop area available for hire. This is normally used for set painting and preparation prior to a group's get-in.
Opening Hours:
The Church Hill Theatre is open most days of the week but not necessarily at the same time each day. It is advisable to telephone either the theatre or the administration office to check if the building is open prior to visiting (numbers listed above).
Performances are normally on Wednesday to Saturday evenings with rehearsals taking place from Sundays to Tuesdays. There are no performances on Christmas or New Year's Day.
Other Information:
The actual rate charged is dependant on various factors such as the day of the week, type of event and if the hirer is a private individual, registered charity, local community group or a commercial company. There are also minimum hire periods of either two or four hours again dependant on the above factors.
The community halls administration section will provide you with full details, costs, and any special requirements which may be the responsibility of the hirer.
Location And Access:
The theatre is located on Morningside Road, the main A702 out of the south-west of the city. and is convenient for public transport. There is a busstop in front of the theatre, served by numbers 11, 15, 16, 17, 23 and 37. Parking in front of the theatre can be difficult but there is unrestricted on-street parking in the surrounding side streets.
The main theatre has disabled access to the foyer and has a specially adapted toilet, but there is at present no access to the auditorium. The Studio is fully accessible for disabled users.
Baby Changing unit and Baby Bottle warming facilities are provided at the venue.

The theatre is hired out to individuals and groups. The City of Edinburgh Council does not promote in the Church Hill Theatre. In conjunction with the Council and the users, a 'What's On' brochure is produced several times each year.

The Studio:
The Studio is hired out to individuals, groups and companies. Acitivities on a regular basis in the venue are keep-fit, aerobics, Scottish country dancing, rehearsals and drama classes. The Studio is also available for private parties and small functions. Please contact the administration office if you would like to hire the venue, or if you wish details of regular activities.
Events:
The theatre is used as a Fringe venue for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe during August. Details and charges for this period are available from the administration office.
