Home improvement grants
Advice
Our aim is to help preserve housing in Edinburgh by helping owners repair their homes.
We provide grants and advice as part of this aim.
A leaflet is available which tells you all about grants. Here is some information on the type of advice we provide.
What needs to be done to my building?
Do-it-yourself
We can supply leaflets and information that will help you check over your building.
Housing Department
We can survey your building and report any problems back to you.
Other organisations
We have lists of organisations that offer surveying services.
How do I organise the work?
Do-it-yourself
We have advice leaflets about how to repair your building. We can also supply an information pack to help you arrange for a contractor (builder, roofer, plumber etc) to do any repairs your building needs.
Housing Department
We can organise and supervise the repair work for you.
Other organisations
We have lists of organisations that offer property management services.
How do I pay for it?
Do-it-yourself
We can advise on a range of ways to pay for repairs.
Housing Department
We can open and manage a project account to
organise paying your contractor. BUT the Council can't contribute to the account. We also offer a range of grants for different types of works. Full details of these grants are given in the Grants information.
Other agencies
We have lists of organisations that offer property management services.
Security
Council staff and our contractors all carry identification. Don't let anyone into your home without checking that they are who they say they are.
Where can I get more advice from?
