Building Design Services (BDS) has a wide range of initiatives and services which it offers to customers. These are multi-disciplinary and often involve working closely with other departments within the Council or with external partners. The co-ordination of staff from different disciplines makes BDS's service unique and highly successful. Our services range widely in variety – from managing the stair lighting throughout the city, to designing and constructing new buildings. BDS also undertakes single project work. BDS strives to maintain a consistently high standard of service, providing a quality project design and management service tailored to the customer's needs and programmes, all within manageable budgets. In the coming years BDS plans to increase its business in the private sector.BDS seeks to further improve its customer focus, strengthen its current partnership arrangements and form new partnerships with Community Councils. Acting as architectural/technical advisers to Pilrig Residents' Association and the Wester Hailes Partnership is one example of where BDS offers community groups a 'one stop shop' advice service on statutory regulations, procedures, grant applications, building and site appraisals, as well as dealing with all design matters.
