School Boards have been in existence since 1989 and have grown in strength over the years. The main purpose of school boards is to promote contact between the school, parents of pupils in attendance at the school and the community. School Boards are all about partnerships. Parents, school staff and co-opted members meet together to share ideas, discuss issues and look at new opportunities. Through the School Board, you can be much more involved in the way your son or daughters school is run. The Head Teacher is not a member of the Board. He/she attends as an Adviser. The Director of Education (or a representative) and local Councillors can attend board meetings. School Board meetings are public meetings and therefore any member of the public is entitled to attend as an observer. |
