Energy & Water
The efficient use of energy and water within the Council are two key elements being addressed through the eco-efficiency programme. Financial savings as well as environmental benefit can be accrued by adopting good housekeeping practices in all Council buildings.

Water
Currently the majority of water bills for Council buildings are based on building rateable value as most Council buildings are not metered to measure water consumption. Currently there is a programme of meter installation by Scottish Water in Council buildings with the highest water bills. This will mean that in future, water bills will be based on actual water consumption.

As part of the implementation of the water management policy in Council buildings, water saving devices (i.e. Push taps, push showers, WC control and urinal controls) have been installed in a number of Council buildings. To date Council buildings fitted with water saving devices are: Drummond High School, Duddingston Primary School, Broughton Primary School, Boroughmuir High School, St John Vianney Primary School, Trinity Academy and Holyrood High School, City Chambers, Shrub House, Chesser House, Blindcraft office, and the City Arts Centre.
