In 1999 the City of Edinburgh Council Social Work Department led a review of services for older people across the Council. The work was undertaken by Sue Brace, Head of Planning and Commissioning, and supported by the multi-agency Strategic Development Group (SDG) for Older People and a City of Edinburgh Council Corporate Support group. The SDG included representatives from the health service, voluntary sector, Council departments, carers and older people's organisations. The review resulted in A City for All Ages (ACFAA). The draft A City for All Ages Action Plan was approved by the Council in March 2000, (see A City for All Ages Action Plan Summary). A public consultation on the document followed and in November 2000, two further health related strategic aims were agreed and added to the Plan. This made the The Council's Plan for Older People and the Joint Lothian's Framework for Older People's Services completely consistent with each other. A revised set of 21 Strategic Aims can be found in CEC's Executive Report 7 November 2000). At the same meeting of the Council on November 7, 2000, approval was given for the implementation of 10 priority actions in 2000/01, 7 of which have dedicated funding. From this agreement, Glenda Watt was appointed in March 2001 as the ACFAA Strategy Manager and in June 2001, Matt Herman was appointed as the Senior Health Promotion Specialist for Older People at Lothian NHS Board. Glenda and Matt are working closely with colleagues in the voluntary sector, health, officers within the Council and the Older People's Equality Forum, to implement the 21 Strategic Aims from ACFAA and the Joint Lothians Framework for Older People's Services. |
