Movement through Waterfront Granton is based upon a network of inter-linked avenues, streets, lanes and footpaths. It is a walkable place designed on the principles of high accessibility by all modes of movement and the balanced distribution of movements through the mix of residential, employment, education and leisure uses. The various types of streets are designed for walking, cycling and, where appropriate, public transport and private vehicles. There are no separate and dedicated vehicle routes. The road, cycleway and footpath networks ensure direct access from all parts of Waterfront Granton to local centres and the public transport networks.

Within this framework, a three-tier public transportation structure is proposed. This involves:

  • a strategic link between the City centre and the Waterfront with three stops (close to the local centre on the Plateau, on the eastern side of the Park, and the Harbour /Granton Village);
  • a spinal east-west route for the extension of the main bus routes of the area through the site, and
  • a series of loops interacting with these two systems, to be operated by local buses.
