What is a Controlled Parking Zone?A controlled parking zone is an area where we charge for parking. We do this to manage demand for the limited number of parking spaces available. This helps to:
· make sure residents have spaces to park near their homes · keep our roads safer and less congested · make sure emergency vehicles have access to all areas · keep traffic moving without illegal parked vehicles blocking the way |

The proposal began as a result of resident and councillor requests in certain areas where parking demand, partly due to commuter parking, was so high it often left residents unable to park within a reasonable distance of their homes.
When will the changes come into effect?
A public hearing
took place between the 12th April and 6th May 2005. The Council is expected
to make a final decision on the extension in November, after the independent
reporter who chaired the hearing submits his recommendations. For more, see
